Guess who's back?

Its kind of amazing how life works. I stepped away from this blog almost exactly a year ago. I felt overwhelmed. I'm not much less overwhelmed, but seem to be finding some balance.

About a year ago we sold our home of 8 years and took a leap of faith. We moved back to our roots. I was scared of what I would lose (our amazing friends and that brand new HEB), but excited about what we would gain (time with our families and home-grown food). We bought 24 acres of very raw land and set out to make a home. We have lived in our Barndominium for 10 months. I really can't imagine living in suburbia again, but boy do I still miss my friends. However, I still make monthly trips to that wonderful HEB.

God has shown us so much about how to depend on him. I didn't understand faith until this year.

I miss blogging. I miss sharing the craziness that is our lives.

So, I'm back. I'm not sure how often or what the content will be, but I am back. There will be crafts and kids and food and maybe no one will read any of it. But that's okay, because if our kids ever want to take a look into their past, they will have a great place to go.

So here's to starting over. Here's to learning our place in this great big world.

Owl Wreath

I have had a lot of pins lately from this wreath I did last fall. I wasn't as Pinterest/Blog Savvy and didn't link the wreath to the original post, so you guys are getting my most current post instead of being directed to the correct one. I wanted to make sure the tutorial was available - so here you go!

Fall Owl Wreath

I am so stinking excited about how this turned out!

By far - my favorite project so far.

Okay - to make this Fall Owl Wreath you will need:

Medium sized round wreath - mine was about 10" accross

4 Strips of fabric - 1.5" x 44" (or the width of a bolt) It took most of a quarter yard.

Hot Glue

A Stick

Cutouts from Silhouette or Stickers/cut outs from the craft store

Step One: Wrap your fabric around your wreath and secure with hot glue at the end of each piece. You don't need to glue as you go, just wrap tightly.

 

 

Here we are all wrapped up - seriously, the possibilities are endless...

  

Step Two: Add you stick across the wreath towards the bottom. Jax (my 4 year old) brought this stick home with him from my office when he stayed home from school because he was sick.

Step Three: Get your extras together. These are the designs I cut out with my Silhouette Cameo. Owls and Flags are both really popular right now, so I'm sure you could find something similar at your local craft store.

 

Step Four: Use hot glue to secure your owl's and flags to your stick and wreath! You are all done!

 

I also made this little decoration with the extra flags and sticks.

Life Update

This week God has definitely stepped things up for us and shown us exactly where we are headed. As most of your know, our house has been for sale since November, even though we really had no plan for where we were going. We eventually decided we would be moving back to our hometown. We started searching for land and found the perfect place in March.

On Sunday of this week we made the decision to move to Madisonville the last weekend of June, still with no plan for where we were going to go. We called someone who we knew had a rent house and were hoping it would be available. They said that was perfect because the current tenant are leaving at the end of June!

The next order of business was focusing on selling our house - nobody wants two mortgages! We got a call yesterday morning with a cash offer on our house. Hmmm, coincidence - I think not! To put that into perspective, we have shown the house over 30 times and that was our first serious offer! We accepted and plan to close July 3.

How's that for lining things up nicely? Now I just need to get packing!

As part of Jax's teacher gifts for the end of the school year, he painted notebooks. They actually turned out pretty cute. He was super excited to use REAL paints.

Hello There...

Wow - Life has been so busy lately! I can't believe how long its been since I posted!


I am going to try and get back into the habit of posting... especially since the countdown has (sorta) started on our move to Madisonville! I want to make sure and stay in touch with my Conroe Peeps through the blog world!


Lets start with some pictures from the last few months!

Easter 2013

Well I'm so glad I remembered my camera this weekend! We got some great shots of the kiddos. This is probably my favorite Easter ever! The kids both had a blast hunting eggs and checking out their Easter baskets. We got to go to church on Sunday - which always makes this momma happy. One of the things we are most looking forward to in our new home is really becoming a part of a church family.


Friday Jax didn't have school - so we headed to Madisonville a little earlier than normal. Grandma had worked hard raking leaves - so Jax was in heaven!

This picture absolutely cracks me up! Jax's face is priceless. He is way too excited about dumping those leaves on Kennedy.

Saturday was our Easter Egg Hunt with Clint's Family. Before we started the Festivities, Jaxson did a little riding on his new (to us) Electric Motorbike. Clint hooked him up with some training wheels. We put on his helmet and he immediately started banging his head into stuff. Boys will be boys!

 Jax was explaining to Kennedy how she needed to stay out of his eggs. She doesn't look convinced.

 Here are all the cousins - we did our best to get a good shot of all of them. Hopefully Aunt Caidi had a little more luck than I did.

We like to read...

Its definitely one of my goals as a mom to have kids that know what a joy reading can be. Yes, I was a bit of a nerd growing up. I'm pretty glad I was. You could definitely find me tucked away in my room for hours reading.

Anyway, for the longest time we didn't have a bookshelf for the kids books. I didn't want to spend money on a crappy one, and we didn't really have a great place for a tall one. About six months ago I drove past this one on the side of the road. I know, lucky me. I stuffed it in the back of my car and brought it home. It has actually turned into one of my favorite pieces of furniture! My dream house will have a mini library with one of those ladders on rollers...

It lives in the hall and I couldn't get a head on shot, but this morning I did some reorganizing so I could see how many books I actually had for Jax. I had a feeling most of our books were more for Kennedy's age. I was right. I devoted most of the top shelves to Jax's reading material.

All of his thinner books - like the ones from Chick-fil-a, fit nicely in this old berry box (which I found at a garage sale for $1).


Jax is in the "this is mine - this is yours" stage. So, he thought it was pretty neat to have his things in their own place. He also "rediscovered" a lot of his books - which is always nice.

Miss Priss showed up to inspect my work. We'll see how long her shelf stays organized...

Jax's Easter Party 2012

Lets just say I didn't win any awards for Mom of the year on this one. I'm super guilty of not reading those notes they send home - oops!


I didn't realize Jax needed an Easter basket for the Easter Egg Hunt at school. I know, sounds obvious, but they totally gave all the kids baskets last year. I just assumed today would be the same. Hey, at least I remembered my contribution to the party food!


Whatever - that explains why Jax is the only kid with a Target sack. However, I must say he was quite proud of it because that's his favorite store ( at least thats what he told me).

 was too cute!
